Saturday, September 13, 2008 - Senator Barack Obama grassroots headquarters opened here in Uniondale, Long Island today by the United Friends of Obama Organization, a grassroots group headed by Sherry Boucarut.
The opening of the headquarters is to date the first of such headquarters on Long Island, and the event brought together diverse supporters of the Illinois Senator's bid for the presidency of the United States. Among those marking the grand opening were county and local officials—prominent among whom were Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin, Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne, NAACP President Douglas Mayers, Cherry Weinstein, assistant to Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, and Andrena Wyatt, President of the Nassau Democratic Club of Hempstead.
Area media outlets present were Cablevision (Channel 12), Haitian TV (Tele Education Channel 18), WNYX Channel 26, Black Star News, and the Hempstead/Uniondale Times newspapers.
The grand opening of Obama-Biden center was complete with a massive voters registration drive, where hundreds of unregistered voters registered to vote and or volunteered to work for the campaign.
“I am very pleased with the turnout of events,” said Sherry Boucarut, chief organizer of the United Friends of Barack Obama.
“This is very important to me. I wanted to have a campaign headquarter in Uniondale and it has become a reality. It is necessary. This is the only headquarters opened here in Nassau as of September, and I am thankful to all the people who have made this happened,” said Sherry Boucarut who is a long-standing supporter of the Senator.

The Obama campaign headquarter is located at 615 Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale and will be opened daily until 8:00 pm. The center welcomes volunteers. For more information, call Sherry at (516) 280-2443.
